We have all read the glamour magazines and seen all the various diets to lose weight that the stars go on. Whether it is a "detox" diet, or one that includes eating only specific foods, these kinds of diets rarely work in the long term, and are extremely unhealthy for your body. The key to getting to and maintaining a healthy body weight doesn't come in a crash diet, but in one that you can continue throughout your entire life.

One of the most common quick diets to lose weight right now is a detox or cleansing diet. In fact, this is not a diet at all - it is the use of fiber in the form of laxatives, to essentially clean out all of the excess waste in your body. You also get a good dose of dehydration with it, so although it is a way to lose weight quickly, it is weight that you will put right back on as soon as you eat or drink anything. These types of diets to lose weight are dangerous to your system, put too much strain on your organs, and don't make you feel very good, either.

There is also a large variety of liquid diets available that do pretty much the same thing. Whether you are thinking of going on an all-juice diet, one that only includes tea, lemon juice, or grapefruit, then you are putting your entire body on a wild ride that will not result in permanent weight loss. A diet like the cabbage diet, in which you eat only pureed cabbage soup, is rough on your system, doesn't taste good, and is certainly nothing that you could stick to in the long term.
... And Now for the Sensible Approach...
Of all the diets to lose weight, the one you should try is the one that you can stick to in the long term. We all need to be eating certain foods, and since giving ourselves dietary treats is part of being human, you need good food on that diet in order to stick to it. Any diet that you go on should be well-balanced, give you the proper amounts of vitamins and minerals, and not put your body into starvation mode, which will only prevent it from losing weight.
When you don't give your body enough calories to survive (usually anything less than 1,000 calories per day), your body starts shutting down and holding on to every calorie it can get. That is why, even when you think you are barely eating anything, that you stop losing weight. Your body is so scared of going without food, that it stops eliminating it as waste.
The trick is to slowly reduce the amount of bad foods you are eating (refined sugars, processed foods, fatty foods), and increase the amount of healthy food (fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean means, and lots of water). Diets to lose weight that includes these will be much more successful for you in the long term and you will find that they are much easier to stay on for longer periods of time.
